Bookmaker slashes odds of royal baby arriving on Queen’s birthday

A bookmaker has slashed odds that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex's baby will be born on the Queen's birthday.

Coral has it at 10-1, down from 25-1, that Harry and Meghan's child will put in an appearance on April 21 – which is also Easter Sunday this year.

The Queen turns 93 in a month's time and will be the baby's great-grandmother.

Heavily pregnant Meghan visited New Zealand House, London, on Tuesday with Harry to pay their respects to the victims of the Christchurch terror attack.

The American former actress has said she is due to give birth in late April or early May.

Coral's Harry Aitkenhead said: "With Meghan due towards the end of April we could be heading for one of the more memorable Easter Sundays in the royal household.

"Not only would the baby be born on the holiday, it also would then share a birthday with the Queen.

"It would be an incredible coincidence and we've slashed our odds on it coming true next month."

Diana – in honour of Harry's late mother – remains the 6-1 favourite name for a girl at Coral, while Albert is leading the stakes for a boy at 10-1.

  • Diana 6-1
  • Victoria 8-1
  • Albert 10-1
  • Philip 12-1
  • Alice 14-1
  • James 14-1
  • Arthur 16-1
  • Elizabeth 16-1
  • Grace 20-1
  • Alexandra 20-1
  • Edward 25-1
  • Frances 25-1
  • Alfred 25-1

The chance of Meghan giving birth to twins is set at 4-1.

The firm is expecting a record number of bets over the coming weeks.

Mr Aitkenhead added: "Every royal baby is always a hugely popular event and punters love having a flutter on the name as well as the gender and day of birth.

"However we've seen huge levels of interest already, with it being Harry and Meghan's first, and it is well on course to break the record for most bets on a royal market."
