Severe gales pummel parts of UK as super-sized hail hits Oldham

Severe gales pummelled parts of the UK today, while large hail hit this home near Oldham.

A variety of weather warnings for wind, snow and ice have been issued from Sunday (March 10) to Wednesday, local media reported.

"Very large hailstones at the moment near Oldham. Some half an inch in size," wrote the filmer of this video, captured at 4pm on Sunday.

After a slight reprieve in conditions expected on Monday, the wild weather is expected to make a return towards the middle of the week.

The Met Office has issued two further yellow weather warnings for wind, the first of which covers much of Northern Ireland, and will begin at 3pm on Tuesday and last until midnight.

Another is in place for much of England from around midnight on Wednesday until 3pm.
