Schoolgirl, 14, stabbed in neck 'with scissors' after being chased by gang of 15 teens
A 14-year-old Coventry schoolgirl was stabbed after being chased down by a gang of more than a dozen people.
The teenager was stabbed in the neck – possibly with scissors – after being chased down by a mob of up to 15 youngsters on Wednesday night.
A 16-year-old girl has subsequently been arrested, said West Midlands Police – the latest stabbing victim in the UK.
'We were called by the ambulance service just before 6.30pm to say that a girl was bleeding from the back of her head,' said officers.
'She was found with a two inch cut to the back of the head. She was attacked with some form of weapon but we don't know if it was scissors.
'It appears to have been a fight between schoolgirls who were known to each other.'
The officer added: 'We have arrested a 16-year-old girl in connection with the incident. She has been arrested for section 20 wounding.'
Locals said the victim was set upon by a large group.
'There were around 15 kids all on this one girl,' one eyewitness said.
'She had injuries to her neck and hand. People were panicking because there was so much blood coming from her neck.'
The 14-year-old was later found by passers-by.
The frightening incident happened not far from where a man was knifed to death in the city last July.
In that incident, Daniel Kennell, 27, was killed after being stabbed in the chest.
His killer Ryan Preston was jailed for life earlier this year.
The latest incident comes amid a frenzied political debate over knife crime in the UK.
Earlier in the week, Prime Minister Theresa May was ridiculed for saying there was no link between the increase in stabbings and a decrease in police numbers.
