Victim of fatal stabbing outside east London railway station named

The family of a man stabbed to death outside an east London train station said he was “loved by all who knew him”.

Police said Ché Morrison died from his injuries at the scene of the attack at Ilford station on Tuesday.

The 20-year-old’s family said he was a “a loving, respectful son, brother, grandchild, nephew, uncle, cousin and a loyal friend”.

“He was loved by all who knew him,” they added in a statement.

“Ché was a very ambitious young man and had many aspirations for his future.

“There are no words to express how the family and close friends feel at this time, they are all deeply shocked that his life has been cut short.”

Police officers were called to reports of a stabbing outside Ilford station in Cranbrook Road at 8.48pm on Tuesday.

Mr Morrison was found with stab injuries following an attack by another man, police said.

He was pronounced dead at the scene shortly after at 9.16pm and an murder investigation has been launched.

Zamirullah Stanikzai, 21, who works in a phone shop close to where the attack took place, said he saw two men brandishing knives.

“I saw people running up and down the station when I went out,” he said.

Ilford South MP Mike Gapes previously tweeted he was “shocked and saddened” by the killing.

Mr Morrison was thought to be the fifth person to be stabbed in London on Tuesday – and the fourth in less than eight hours.

There have been 17 homicides in London so far this year.

Scotland Yard said no arrests had been made and inquiries were continuing to establish the motive behind the attack.

Detective chief inspector Mark Cranwell said the stabbing occurred at a busy time of day and a number of people would have seen the incident.

“I would urge anyone who has yet to contact police to please do so immediately,” he said.

“We also know there was a group of males who are known to hang around regularly outside the station; they would have seen the attack on Ché and I would ask members of that group to come forward and speak to us.

“This tragedy has left a family devastated and the person responsible needs to be apprehended.”
