Thief returns magazine to library after more than five decades

A person who stole a 1968 Life Magazine from a north-east Ohio library 51 years ago recently returned it with a note reading: "I stole this magazine from the Palmer Ridge Road library when I was a kid. I'm sorry I took it.

"I've enclosed a cheque for the late fee."

News 5 Cleveland noted that if the magazine thief had checked out the magazine instead of stealing it they would hypothetically have racked up over $1,800 in overdue fines from 1968 to today at the library's current rate of ten cents per day.

The library did not mention that in its Facebook post about the surprise return. They simply wrote:

To the Beatles fan who borrow this copy of Life Magazine in 1968 - thank you for returning it this week and clearing your conscience."
