Sold out: Outlander fans snap up tickets to see Diana Gabaldon

Outlander fans have snapped up tickets to hear author Diana Gabaldon speak at a stately home that features in the hit TV show.

The US writer will take questions from the audience at Hopetoun House near South Queensferry on March 15.

Tickets went on sale at around 10am on Friday and sold out less than four hours later.

Fans will recognise the venue from the screen adaptation of Gabaldon’s historical time travel series, which concluded its fourth season in January.

Author James Crawford will chair the evening in the Red Drawing Room, which appeared as the home of the Duke of Sandringham in series one.

Outlander follows the adventures of English nurse Claire Randall, who travels back in time from 1940s Scotland to the 18th century, where she meets and falls in love with Highlander Jamie Fraser.

The first book was published in 1991 and it was adapted for television in 2014.

Fans of the series have since flocked from Europe and North America to visit locations featured in the show.

The Hopetoun House event has been organised by VisitScotland and Publishing Scotland, with support from United Airlines.

Jenni Steele from VisitScotland said: “The Outlander books and subsequent TV series have had a huge impact on tourism in Scotland, inspiring thousands of travellers to visit our shores.

“It is only fitting that fans will get the chance to hear from the award-winning author in the sumptuous Hopetoun House, which will be familiar to viewers.”

Marion Sinclair from Publishing Scotland added: “Books and storytelling have long been the source of cinematic and TV adaptations and Outlander is one of the major page-to-screen stories of the past decade in Scotland.

“We are thrilled to have the opportunity to hear from Diana Gabaldon about how her writing served as the inspiration for the series.”
