Sinkhole causes traffic chaos in one of UK's most affluent areas

A sinkhole appeared on a busy London road during rush hour on Thursday.

The gaping crevice on Church Street caused severe disruption around West London.

Local resident and mum Rachel Palazzolo, whose house is situated next to the sinkhole, described how the previous night her whole house was shaking and her son heard repeated bangs.

She said that buses travelling too fast down the road often shake their windows, but the shaking had never been this bad before.

Other residents also complained of a lot of heavy traffic using the road.

Thames Water staff were seen attending the scene at lunchtime, their press office said they were working closely with Kensington and Chelsea council to investigate the cause of the incident.
