Driver in Australia hailed a hero after confronting cigarette butt litterbug

A Perth man has been hailed a hero on social media after confronting a litterbug driver who threw a cigarette butt out of her car window.

Magnus Hand uploaded dashcam footage of the confrontation to the Dash Cam Owners Australia Facebook Page on Thursday evening.

Less than a day later the post had 290,000 views and 1700 comments such as: "I'm voting you Australian of the year, you're the hero we never knew we needed!"

Mr Hand told Storyful he took the video via his dashboard camera at the intersection of Selby and Grantham streets in the Perth suburb of Churchlands.

"Hopefully it makes smokers think twice before throwing [cigarette butts] out the window," he said. "They could get a return-to-sender."
