Katharine McPhee and Meghan Markle are smiling child stars in epic new throwback

Who knew?!

Katharine McPhee took the internet by surprise on Thursday when she shared an unexpected throwback photo of herself and Duchess of Sussex Meghan Markle on Twitter.

In the photo, both actresses have big smiles on their faces while wearing piercing red lipstick.

"Both did musicals together as a kid. One is now the duchess and the other is starring on the West End," McPhee captioned the photo. Basically the same life if you ask me."

Though it's unclear what musicals the pair did together as child stars, we do know that they were both born and raised in Los Angeles, where they began their respective careers in show business.

McPhee would eventually become a household name after coming in second on American Idol before starring on Smash and Scorpion. Markle, of course, acted on Suits before dropping acting to marry Prince Harry last year.

The singer shared the photo ahead of her West End debut, where she'll reprise her starring role in the hit Broadway musical, Waitress. She's currently engaged to David Foster.
