Thief steals SUV as it is being cleaned

The owners of a car wash have issued a £1k reward after a brazen thief drove off with an SUV while it was being cleaned.

The vehicle, which still had the keys in the ignition, was taken from the family-run Cousins Hand Car Wash and Valeting Service in Basildon, Essex on January 22.

Hawkar Khdir, a family member who helps run the business, has now posted the shocking footage of the theft on Facebook and is offering the reward.

'Really hurt us financially and emotionally'

The video reveals how the red Vauxhall Mokka was stolen while it was being cleaned at the car wash with all four doors and the boot open.

"As a small, family-run business, this has really hurt us financially and emotionally, we can't afford such a loss," Mr Khdir said.

"We only wash the car for £5 and to see the car stolen - it's a 64 plate car, it's probably worth around £9,000 - is a huge financial loss for us We would just like to help find the car and hopefully return it to the owner, but we do need the public's help."

Essex Police said its officers were looking into the incident.
