Ed Miliband’s wife appointed as High Court judge
The lawyer wife of former Labour leader Ed Miliband has been made a High Court judge.
News of barrister Justine Thornton QC’s appointment was published on the Courts and Tribunals Judiciary website.
A statement said she had been a barrister for 25 years and would be known as Mrs Justice Thornton.
Mr Miliband, who represents Doncaster North, said in a tweet that he was “very proud of Justine’s appointment”.

A biography on the Judicial Appointments Commission website says she is 48, grew up in Nottingham and was educated at a comprehensive school.
The lawyer brother of former Labour prime minister Tony Blair drew his career as a High Court judge to a close in late 2017.
Sir William Blair retired almost a decade after being appointed.
