Sweltering residents have had to get creative to keep cool, taking advantage of anything that will offer respite from the heat.

After one pub promised free beer if the mercury reached 45 degrees, punters flocked to the bar when it did.

Zoo animals have been getting hosed down and one man even used hot concrete to make an inventive breakfast.
