World's oldest man dies at age 113

The world's oldest man, 113-year-old Masazo Nonaka, has died.

That's according to Japanese media reports that say he passed away in the early hours of Sunday morning.

Nonaka was confirmed as the oldest living man by Guinness World Records in his hometown of Ashoro in northern Japan last year.

A farmer and lumberjack in his youth, Nonaka later ran a hot-spring resort in Ashoro where he raised two sons and three daughters.

A document kept by local welfare authorities described how he regularly soaked himself in the sulfur-rich hot springs and also had an insatiable appetite for sweets, especially strawberry shortcake.

The oldest man that has ever lived was also Japanese, Jiroemon Kimura, who died in 2013 at the age of 116 years and 54 days.

The longest human life recognized by Guinness World Records is French woman Jeanne Calment who lived 122 years and 164 days and died on August 4, 1997.
