Bloodsucking leech pulled from woman's throat after three months

Video has captured the moment doctors removed a live leech from a woman's throat.

The 63-year-old, from Vietnam, was having surgery to remove a tumour when the parasite was discovered.

The creature, which measured two inches, had been living inside the woman's throat for three months.

The patient, who hasn't been named, hails from Ha Giang Province - a mountainous region that borders China.

Physicians think that she may have come into contact with the leech during a bath in spring water.

The leech was only spotted when she went to hospital complaining of her headaches that had lasted several weeks.

Upon further inspection, the woman was diagnosed with a throat tumour that had to be removed.

However, during the op, doctors were surprised to find the leech in the patient's sinuses.
