Four injured in three vehicle collision

A woman was airlifted to hospital with a serious head injury following a crash involving three vehicles in South Lanarkshire.

The 62-year-old van driver is in a critical condition at Glasgow’s Queen Elizabeth University Hospital after the collision on the A73 near Thankerton on Wednesday afternoon.

She was one of four people taken to hospital for treatment to injuries.

Police Scotland said the woman was driving a Peugeot Bipper van near the entrance of Thankerton Camp Farm when it was involved in a crash with a Ford Focus and a Jeep.

Emergency services went to the scene following the incident, which happened at around 4.50pm that day.

The 21-year-old passenger in the van was taken by ambulance to the University Hospital in Wishaw, where she is in a serious condition.

The 23-year-old Ford driver was also taken to the same hospital and is said to be “stable”.

The 68-year-old passenger of the Jeep was treated for minor injuries at the hospital and has now been released. The 70 year-old driver was uninjured.

Police have appealed for information and are asking anyone who has dash-cam footage from the road around the time of the crash to contact officers.
