I remembered Kate’s birthday so I was OK, jokes William

The Duke of Cambridge is in his wife’s good books after he “remembered” her 37th birthday – but he remained tight-lipped about the present.

William joked about his partner’s milestone when he was given a homemade birthday card for Kate during an event celebrating the 30th anniversary of London’s Air Ambulance Charity.

The card was made by Alma Shahar, six, whose father Yair Shahar, 49, had been given critical treatment by the air ambulance after being run over by a car when cycling in Edmonton, north London, in 2016.

The duke said “I did remember this morning, so I was OK,” when given the card made by the young girl, whose family met the royal during his trip to the Royal London Hospital in east London.

But when quizzed about what he had given his wife as a gift, he laughed off the question.

The six-year-old wrote in the card: “Kate, I hope you’ve had the best birthday you could ever imagine.”

Kate received other birthday wishes from around the globe, with royal households, British embassies and charities which she supports as patron posting their congratulations.

Kensington Palace thanked the public for their “lovely messages”.

The duchess is expected to be marking the occasion on Wednesday with William and their three children Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis.

Kate has had a busy 12 months on the family front, giving birth to Louis last April and becoming a mother of three.

During his visit William was given presents for his children, with a small teddy bear each for Charlotte and Louis and a soft toy in the shape of an air ambulance helicopter for George.

There was an extra present, a model helicopter, for George and his father quipped: “I cannot go back without a helicopter, George will never forgive me.”

Catherine Elizabeth Middleton was born to Carole and Michael Middleton at the Royal Berkshire Hospital in Reading on January 9 1982.

She was christened at the parish church of St Andrew’s Bradfield in Berkshire on June 20 1982.

Amman in Jordan was home to Kate and her family for a few years in the mid-1980s, where she attended a nursery school from the age of three, before returning to Berkshire.

At the age of 13, she went to the exclusive, private Marlborough College in Wiltshire, where she part-boarded.

During her time there, she represented the college at tennis, hockey and netball.

She graduated in 2005 with a 2:1 in history of art from St Andrews University, where she met and began dating William, whom she married in 2011.

Kate – now an HRH and a future queen – is patron of 17 charities and organisations, and has focused her charity work on helping children have the best possible start in life, particularly surrounding their mental health.
