Bizarre surveillance footage shows man licking doorbell for three hours outside California home
Authorities are currently searching for a prowler caught on surveillance footage engaging in some downright peculiar behavior outside of a California home.
Police in the city of Salinas, Calif., are trying to track down 33-year-old Roberto Daniel Arroyo after he was videotaped licking a doorbell for nearly three hours outside of a house in the neighborhood of Rossi Rico.
"I thought I'd seen it all, but this takes the cake," neighbor Francisco Javier Estrada told KION-TV.
Homeowner Sylvia Dungan, who was out of town with her husband Dave during the strange incident, told the station she was first alerted to the doorbell licker by her home's newly-installed surveillance system, which notifies her when it senses movement by her front door.
Dungan said that her children were asleep inside the home at the time but were not awoken by Arroyo's presence.
After reviewing the surveillance footage, Dungan reported the incident to authorities, who were able to quickly identify the suspect thanks to the high quality of the video.
"We were pleasantly surprised the image was so clear. It didn't take us long to identify the individual," Salina Police Department spokesperson Miguel Cabrera said.
Police are still searching for Arroyo, who may face two misdemeanor charges, including petty theft and prowling.
Although the incident sparked concern among neighbors, Dungan maintained a good sense of humor throughout the ordeal.
"You kind of laugh about it afterward because technically he didn't do anything," Dungan told KION-TV.
"This just kind of reinforces how important it is to have security within your home," she added.
