Bid to troll Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez backfires

An online attempt to embarrass Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez has not ended the way the troll expected, after a university video of the newly elected congresswoman went viral - winning plaudits from the general public and celebrities across America.

The young politician is seen dancing in a mash-up parody of the Breakfast Club's famous scene where outcast Allison, played by Ally Sheedy, dances on the desks during detention. The video which shows Ms Ocasio-Cortez dancing on a rooftop was released just as she was sworn into office.

A tweet from an account called AnonymousQ spared no doubt over their views of the politician saying: "Here is America's favourite commie know-it-all acting like the clueless nitwit she is..."

However, the desired effect to shame the congresswoman backfired spectacularly as she increased her followers and dominated social media conversations.

Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez is the youngest congresswoman to take office after a shock upset in the 2018 primary race in New York unseated the long-time congressman Jospeh Crowley.

The self-styled Democratic Socialist has taken politics by storm with her brand of popular policy ideas on universal healthcare and fair pay. but it is her humble background and common touch which has also appealed to voters and equally worried her opponents, who view her as a possible future presidential candidate.
