Stab victim named as police arrest man in connection with death

A fatal stabbing victim has been named by police as detectives continue to question a man in connection with the death.

Stuart Roe was found fatally wounded in Springfield Drive in Halesowen at about 1.45am on Sunday, after it is thought he was attacked in the street, West Midlands Police said.

Mr Roe, 34, who was from nearby Brierley Hill, was pronounced dead at the scene.

A murder investigation was launched and detectives arrested a 57-year-old man, from Tipton, West Midlands, at 4pm the same day.

He was detained outside an address in Greenhill Road, Halesowen, which is a few minutes’ walk from where Mr Roe was found.

The man remains in police custody where he is being questioned.

Detectives said the victim had been to the Britannia Wetherspoons pub in Halesowen Street, about a mile away, for a short period at about 1am.

Detective Inspector Caroline Corfield, of West Midlands Police, appealed for anyone in the pub at around that time to get in touch.

Releasing a picture of the victim, she also asked for anyone with CCTV or dash-cameras who may have been travelling in the area at the time to check their video for images which could show Mr Roe.

DI Corfield said: “We know Mr Roe was in the Britannia pub for a short period of time at around 1am.

“I’d like anyone who was in the pub to get in touch as they may unwittingly have important information.

“We’ve now released an image of Mr Roe; I really need anyone who believes they may have seen him in the pub that night – or making his way towards Springfield Drive – to contact us as soon as possible.”
