Sturgeon offers May some Christmas spirit at Downing Street

Theresa May could be drowning her Brexit sorrows in Scottish gin after Nicola Sturgeon presented her with a bottle for Christmas.

The First Minister, who was in Downing Street for talks, gave Mrs May a bottle of Misty Isle Gin, which is distilled on Skye.

Ms Sturgeon said: “I gave the Prime Minister a Christmas present.

“I gave her a bottle of gin from the Isle of Skye – Misty Isle Gin.”

The SNP’s leader at Westminster, Ian Blackford, represents Ross, Skye and Lochaber in the Commons.

Ms Sturgeon said: “I thought it was appropriate to present the Prime Minister with a Christmas present from Ian Blackford’s beautiful constituency.

“I’m not sure she should give Nicholas Soames a drink out of it, but I’ll leave that up to her.”

Sir Nicholas shouted “go back to Skye” at Mr Blackford when he spoke in the Commons earlier this week.

Asked if the Prime Minister gave her a present, Ms Sturgeon said: “I’m not saying anything on that.”
