500-year-old skeleton discovered still wearing boots

Archaeologists have found the 500-year-old skeleton of a man, in a remarkably well-preserved pair of leather boots.

The man and his boots were discovered in the mud under the River Thames during construction work on London's new super sewer.

A team from the MOLA Headland Infrastructure have speculated that the man's death was probably due to an accident as his boots were made from quality leather - a highly-prized asset at the time which suggests he was not buried on purpose.

They believe he may have been a fisherman, a mudlark or even a sailor.

According to the Evening Standard, grooves on the man's teeth also suggest he made his living from the river, as it's possible he was passing rope between his teeth, as a fisherman might.
