NASA prepares for ‘7 minutes of terror’ as Mars lander InSight nears destination

NASA is preparing for its lander, InSight, to break through the Martian atmosphere and touch down on the surface - an event known in the space business as '7 minutes of terror'.

According to popular science, in addition to being roughly the amount of time that the final leg of the journey takes, it's a period when engineers are unable to intervene should something go awry.

There are a number of challenged related to InSight's Mars landing, currently scheduled for Monday, and any one of them could make those 7 minutes of terror feel like a lifetime.
