What the papers say – November 8

Several papers have the Prince of Wales on their Thursday front pages after he said will not “meddle” when he is king.

Several also pick up on the latest developments on midterm elections in the US, their resulting political fallout and what it means for Donald Trump.

The Daily Mail leads with Charles’s suggestion that he will not speak out on issues after his coronation – the paper calling it an “extraordinary admission”.

When asked whether his public campaigning will go on, he responded: “No, it won’t. I’m not that stupid,” the Daily Express reports.

The Daily Telegraph says the prince’s comments, made in an interview with the BBC, amount to the first outline he has given for his plans as head of state.

On to the US midterms and The Times leads with Mr Trump’s announcement that he will seek reelection in 2020.

However, after a bruising night that saw the Republicans lose control of the House of Representatives, the president has said he will give a “warlike response” if the Democrats try to investigate him over his past business affairs and affiliations, The Guardian says.

The Financial Times says Mr Trump appealed to the opposition to work with him to achieve shared policy goals.

But the i says the result marks the start of a “fightback” by the Democrats, who had aimed to take both congressional chambers; the House of Representatives and the Senate.

In other news, the Daily Mirror leads with a callous attack on a Second World War veteran that left the 98-year-old fighting for his life in hospital.

A grandmother from London, aged 50, has given birth to quadruplets, The Sun reports.

And The Independent says citizens from more than 60 countries have been referred to the Windrush taskforce.
