Police name driver killed in tree crash

A man who died after his car left the road and hit a tree has been named by police.

Mohammad Asghar, 54, was driving south on the A74(M) near Kirkpatrick Fleming, Dumfries and Galloway, when the crash happened at around 10.10pm on Wednesday.

Police said early reports indicated that there may have been debris on the carriageway near the scene of the collision.

They are keen to trace a lorry which may have lost timber from its load on Wednesday evening.

Officers are appealing for information about the one-vehicle crash, which involved a black BMW 730.

Mr Asghar was from Blackburn in Lancashire.
