Light aircraft crashes at Brighton City Airport

A small plane carrying four people has crashed as it tried to take off at Brighton City Airport.

No-one was taken to hospital following the accident at the airport in Shoreham at around 11am on Friday.

The light aircraft appears to have veered off the runway and then into bushes, images from the scene show.

Emergency services briefly attended.

A spokesman for West Sussex Fire and Rescue said: “Two engines and specialist appliances were sent to the scene.

“On arrival, it was established that all persons had been released from the aircraft and no further appliances were required.”

A spokeswoman for Brighton City Airport said: “At 11.04 this morning a four-seater aircraft departing runway 02 developed a problem and entered rough ground.

“The airport and local emergency services attended the scene and the passengers alighted the aircraft. The aerodrome has since reopened.”

Four people aboard were assessed and no-one taken to hospital, a South East Coast Ambulance spokesman added.
