Bones found in grounds of student residence identified

Bones found in the grounds of a student residence have been identified as a man in his 50s following scientific examination.

The remains were discovered near the University of Edinburgh’s Pollock Halls by a student resident in late September.

Police said they had been in the ground for a “considerable period of time”.

Officers said there were no suspicious circumstances surrounding the death of the man, who was from the Borders.

His family have been told.

A Police Scotland spokesman said: “Following scientific examination, the remains found at Pollock Halls in Edinburgh on September 26 have now been identified.

“There are no suspicious circumstances surrounding the death of the man, who was in his 50s and from the Scottish Borders. His family have been informed.”
