Student’s attack death: Three deny using or threatening violence

A 19-year-old woman and two teenage girls have denied using or threatening violence in connection with the death of an Egyptian engineering student.

Mariam Moustafa was left in a coma after an assault in February, in which the 18-year-old was repeatedly punched during a confrontation with a group of women outside the Victoria Centre in Nottingham.

After receiving hospital treatment she was initially discharged, but was later readmitted after her condition deteriorated.

She suffered a stroke and died in hospital on March 14.

Mariah Fraser and two girls aged 17 and 16, who cannot be named for legal reasons, pleaded not guilty to the single charge of affray on Thursday at Nottingham Crown Court.

The three defendants were granted conditional bail until their trial date on April 23 at the same court.
