Dutch royals watch anti-terrorism display on the Thames

The King and Queen of the Netherlands watched a dramatic anti-terrorism display inches from their vantage point on a warship on the final day of their state visit.

King Willem-Alexander and Queen Maxima saw a suspect apprehended by service personnel in front of them as they stood on the deck of the vessel.

They were joined by the Earl and Countess of Wessex during the exercise carried out in the shadow of HMS Belfast.

During the mock terrorist incident staged by the Royal Netherlands Marine Corps and the Royal Marines, inflatable ribs sped across the water as shots could be heard.

Then the forces stormed a passenger vessel that had apparently been taken over by the terrorists before detaining the man in front of the royals.

The foreign head of state and his wife later visited Pop Brixton, a temporary project that has turned disused land into a creative space for local, independent businesses.
