These World Heritage Sites face climate change threat
A report by the Journal of Nature has revealed that the number of UNESCO World Heritage Sites are under threat from climate change.
The report says that 49 UNESCO heritage sites located in the Mediterranean are particularly under threat from rising sea levels.
Major issues facing these coastal communities includes flooding and coastal erosion. Places like Venice could be facing a major catastrophe as the region struggles to mitigate the worst effects.
World Heritage Site status are granted for areas that are particularly important to global heritage, history and culture.
