Body found by man on Co Down beach

Police are investigating after a member of the public discovered a body on a beach in Co Down.

The body was discovered by a man shortly before 5am on Thursday in Newcastle with the town’s promenade sealed off.

It is understood at this stage the discovery is not being treated as suspicious.

A spokesman for the PSNI said: “Police continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the discovery of a man’s body on a beach in Newcastle this morning.

“The body was found by a member of the public shortly before 5am.

“There are no further details at this stage.”
