Is the 'box-wing' aircraft the plane of the future?

European researchers are trying to develop a 'box-wing' airplane with the aim of taking to the skies by 2035.

These planes would be capable of carrying more passengers and cargo than current commercial aircraft without significant increase in size or fuel consumption.

For instance, box-wing planes will carry 100 more passengers than ordinary jets of an equivalent size.
