The Sonos One speaker has beaten the iPhone X, Xbox One X and Oculus Go virtual reality headset to be named gadget of the year at the annual T3 Awards.

The wireless Bluetooth home speaker picked up the biggest prize at the annual industry awards run by the technology magazine and website, which also saw the iPhone X beat Samsung’s Galaxy S9 to the phone of the year title.

Amazon was named brand of the year ahead of Apple, Microsoft, Samsung, LG, Sony and Huawei, as its Echo Show smart speaker with a screen was named innovation of the year, and the smaller Echo Show won the best smart home tech award.

Red Dwarf stars Craig Charles and Robert Llewellyn were honoured at the awards, with Charles – also a presenter of Channel 5’s The Gadget Show – named tech personality of the year.

Llewellyn received the tech legend award in recognition of his weekly YouTube show Fully Charged, which has been running since 2010.

T3 editor Matt Bolton said: “The T3 Awards is the biggest night in the tech calendar for good reason: they celebrate the very best the tech world has to offer, and bring together the brightest of an industry that gets more exciting by the day.”

Microsoft’s Surface Book 2 was also among the winners on the night, picking up the best laptop prize, while Jaguar’s first ever fully electric car, the i-Pace, was named best car.
