Jail for driver who twice rammed police car in high-speed chase
A man has been jailed for 16 months after fleeing police and ramming a cop car twice during a high-speed chase.
Norfolk Police said the pusuit started after they received reports of two burglaries in the north of the county and were alerted by a witness to a vehicle linked to the crimes.
Dashcam footage (in our video, above) shows police catching up with the car at a supermarket in Fakenham, where two passengers flee the vehicle.
Abandoned the car after ramming a police vehicle for a second time
The driver of the car - 36-year-old Shady Coates from Norwich - then reverses, ramming into the police car, before leading them on a 20-minute, high-speed chase through country roads.
He abandoned the car after ramming a police vehicle for a second time. Several stolen items were found nearby which had been thrown over a hedge, police said.
Coates was later identified and arrested. He was convicted at Norwich Crown Court of dangerous driving, having no insurance for being a disqualified driver.
As well as the jail sentence, Coates was given a 40-month driving ban.
