Man dies after four-vehicle crash on Skye

A man has died after a four-vehicle crash on the Isle of Skye.

The alarm was raised about the incident, about a mile north of Sligachan on the A87, at around 8.50am on Wednesday.

The crash involved a white Ford van, a white Audi Q7, a blue Mercedes C-Class and a silver Vauxhall van.

A 54-year-old man who was driving the Ford died as a result of the collision.

Another man in the same vehicle was airlifted to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Glasgow for treatment to serious injuries.

The road was closed with a diversion in place from Sligachan to Dunvegan on A863 and then on the A850 via Edinbane to Portree.

Sergeant Ewan Calder said: "Our thoughts at this time are very much with the family and friends of the victim of this collision.

"I would also extend our thanks to the public for their patience while the road has been closed.

"Our inquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances and I would ask anyone with information who has not yet spoken to an officer gets in touch as soon as possible."
