Empty piece of land in Beverly Hills goes on the market for £762 million

This mostly undeveloped piece of mountaintop real estate is going on the market for £762m ($1 billion).

For that eye-popping sum, you can have what is arguably the best view in Los Angeles — from Malibu to the San Gabriel Mountains, to the city's skyscrapers down to the Pacific Ocean.

"The Mountain," as it is known, has an impressive view, and it's located in a famous zip code: 90210.

The 157-acre undeveloped plot of land sits atop Beverly Hills and is the most expensive piece of property in Los Angeles' history.

Now called Mountain Beverly Hills, the parcel is so large it could contain two Disneylands.

The mountaintop was once owned by talk show host and TV producer Merv Griffin, who planned to put a marble mansion on it, but never did. He told the Los Angeles Times in 1987 he planned to put a helipad on the property.

He ended up selling the land for more than $8 million to Herbalife founder Mark Hughes in 1997. But Hughes died three years later before he could develop the property.

The land is currently owned by Secured Capital Property, according to the Los Angeles Times.

Listing agent Aaron Kirman called it "the crown jewel of Beverly Hills" and told the paper he plans to jet around the world looking for a buyer.
