Woman harassed and and hit by catcaller in sick clip from Paris

A shocking video of a woman being catcalled and assaulted by a man in a Paris street has gone viral.

The disturbing clip shows French student Marie Laguerre, 22, facing street harassment while on her way home from work.

She explained the man was making obscene comments and grotesque sexual noises. When she told him to shut up and stop, he struck her violently in the face.

She said: “I know he’s going to hit me. I could have run off but there was no question of that. I wasn’t going to look down and certainly wasn’t going to apologise.”

Adding: “I can’t keep quiet and we mustn’t stay silent.”

The grim clip is circulating as he French government pushes to impose on-the-spot fines for catcalling and street harassment.

Fines ranging from 90 – 750 Euros depending on the offence could be handed to offenders, in a move backed by French MPs.

Ms Laguerre went home after she was assaulted, though quickly decided to return to the cafe to collect witness statements to complain to the police.

Prosecutors in Paris have confirmed they are looking into the attack. Though the man is yet to be arrested.
