UK tourists killed in Co Limerick road crash

An elderly couple from the UK have died in a car crash while on holiday in the Republic of Ireland.

The collision between a lorry and a car happened on a straight stretch of road in Co Limerick on Wednesday morning.

Gardai are appealing for witnesses following the fatal crash on the N25 Limerick to Tipperary Road near the village of Dromkeen.

A man in his 80s and a woman in her 70s who were travelling in the car were both pronounced dead at the scene.

The Coroner has been notified and post-mortem examinations are to be carried out at University Hospital Limerick.

The married couple were visiting from the UK.

A man in his 40s who was driving the lorry was taken by ambulance to University Hospital Limerick. His condition is not thought to be life threatening.

The crash scene remains closed to traffic as Garda Forensic Collision Investigators and crime officers examine the scene.
