Driver sought after 100-year-old woman suffers broken neck in street robbery

Police hunting a violent robber who left a 100-year-old woman with a broken neck have appealed for information to trace the driver of a car spotted near the scene.

Derbyshire Police issued CCTV images of the beige Seat Leon - with the registration plate SL02 KVZ - after the "despicable" offence on bank holiday Monday.

The vehicle and its driver were seen in the Normanton area of Derby, where the attack took place at around 8.45am.

The victim, who has not been named, suffered a broken neck, a fractured cheekbone and bruising to her face, but is said to be recovering well considering her ordeal.

Police have confirmed the woman's handbag was stolen by a thief who approached her from behind and knocked her over.

Superintendent Tracy Harrison said: "We know that there will be people out there who have seen this car - and may even know the man driving it.

"We believe he is a key person in helping our inquiries into this despicable crime and we need your help to identify him.

"We know the car was in and around the Pear Tree area in the days running up to bank holiday Monday and then we believe was left in the car park in Stockbrook soon after."

Anyone with information about the driver, particularly CCTV or dashcam footage of the vehicle, is urged to call police on 101.
