Queen enjoys leisure time at Royal Windsor Horse Show

The Queen has been enjoying one of her favourite events of the year in the grounds of Windsor Castle, just over a week before the royal residence hosts the wedding of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle.

Dressed in a pale blue cardigan, open-necked blouse and tweed skirt, the monarch looked relaxed as she spent some off-duty downtime at the Royal Windsor Horse Show.

Amid the sunshine, the Queen sat in the shelter of a wooden structure watching the proceedings on the first day of the annual showjumping competition.

She was seen holding a pink rosette after one of her horses finished fifth.

The five-day equestrian event, which runs until May 13, is located in the private grounds of the castle.

Harry and Ms Markle's wedding on May 19 will have been timetabled to allow the Queen to attend the show and to make sure the nuptials did not clash with its organisation.

The prince and his American bride will wed in the castle's gothic St George's Chapel a week on Saturday, when thousands of spectators and media will descend on the town.

The Queen was at the horse show without the 96-year-old Duke of Edinburgh, who is recovering from a hip replacement operation, with his attendance at the wedding yet to be confirmed.
