Labour dismisses MP's claim Jeremy Corbyn supports Scottish independence

Labour has dismissed as "complete nonsense" claims from SNP MP Mhairi Black that Jeremy Corbyn told her he backs Scottish independence.

Speaking to HuffPost UK, Ms Black said she knew from talking to the Labour leader he personally did not believe in Labour's official position of supporting Scotland remaining in the UK.

"I'm raging at Jeremy," the MP for Paisley and Renfrewshire told the news website.

"He has totally sold his soul, especially in terms of Scotland."

She added: "He has sold out in terms of Scottish independence - because I know that he doesn't believe the things he says about independence now."

Questioned about how she knew Mr Corbyn supported independence, she said: "From talking to him."

A Labour Party spokeswoman said: "Mhairi Black's claims are complete nonsense."
