Prince Louis a long shot to become England footballer

He may only be a few days old but punters are already placing bets on what the future holds for Prince Louis - from his chances of playing football for England to becoming king.

Bookmakers have given odds on a string of possible achievements by the baby prince whose name was announced on Friday by his proud parents the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge.

William Hill is offering odds of 1,000-1 Louis will become an England football international, and 50-1 he will follow in the footsteps of his first cousin Zara Phillips - who won an Olympic team eventing silver in 2012 - and win an Olympic medal.

Coral has priced Louis - who is fifth in line to the throne - at 100-1 to become king one day.

Rupert Adams, from William Hill, said: "Louis was a popular choice for many of our customers who will be collecting some tidy sums today.

"We think there is a real chance that Louis could win an Olympic medal, perhaps equestrian or skeet shooting.

"Whilst we would not be at all surprised if Louis will have another brother or sister in the near future."

The firm is also offering odds of 2-1 that William and Kate have a fourth child.

Coral's John Hill said: "Not many punters predicted Louis in the royal baby name betting so it has proved to be a little bit of a surprise, to the relief of the bookmakers who feared the late gamble on Albert."

He added: "The betting suggests it is unlikely that the new prince will ever come to the throne, however, that has not stopped many people backing the baby to become king one day."
