Two dead after 'wrong-way' M62 crash

Two men have died and a motorist arrested after a crash involving a car driving the wrong way on the M62 near Bradford.

Police were called after reports of a car driving eastbound on the westbound carriageway at 2.30am on Monday.

Shortly later, the ambulance service was called to an accident involving the same vehicle and a white Skoda Octavia.

The men, aged 34 and 37, in the Skoda died at the scene.

In a statement, West Yorkshire Police said: "Officers have responded and located the two vehicles. Two males in one of the vehicles, which is a white Skoda, were declared deceased at the scene.

"A male, believed to be the driver of the second vehicle involved which is a black Vauxhall Insignia, was arrested for causing death by dangerous driving.

"He also failed a roadside breath test... the major roadside collision team are continuing the investigation."

The M62 was closed westbound between junction 27 (Gildersome) and junction 26 (Chain Bar) for recovery and police investigation work.

It reopened at 10am.
