Airbus issue warning over job cuts

Airbus has said 3,700 jobs are at risk across the UK, France, Germany and Spain because it is cutting production rates of its A380 and A400M planes.

Around 6,000 people are employed at the firm's wing manufacturing plant in Broughton, North Wales.

The company pledged to manage the implications for its workforce "in a responsible manner" and expressed confidence it will be able to "propose opportunities" to most affected employees.

Airbus will produce six A380 double-decker airliners and eight A400M military transporters every year from 2020.

The firm warned in January the A380 production line could be shut down after picking up no new orders last year.

But days later, Emirates ordered 20 with the option to buy 16 more.

An Airbus spokesman said: "Airbus can produce the A380 in an industrial efficient way over the coming years.

"This baseline allows Airbus to pursue further sales campaigns which may lead to higher production levels."
