First British astronaut to be honoured at Windsor Castle
Britain's first astronaut will be honoured on Friday when she is appointed a Companion of the Order of St Michael and St George (CMG).
Helen Sharman will receive the appointment from the Queen during an investiture ceremony at Windsor Castle.
Ms Sharman became the first Briton in space when she visited the Mir space station in May 1991.
Her trip was made possible by a private programme called Project Juno, and paid for jointly by the USSR and a consortium of British companies.
The former chemist is being honoured for her services to science and technology educational outreach.
Also being honoured is co-founder and joint chief executive of the Ambassador Theatre Group, Rosemary Squire, who receives a damehood for her services to theatre and philanthropy.
Former rugby union referee Edward Morrison will be made an OBE for his services to the sport.
