Cambridge University to offer apprenticeship courses for the first time
Cambridge University is to offer apprenticeship courses alongside conventional degrees for the first time.
It has registered as an official apprenticeship trainer and a spokesman said it hopes to start delivering courses from the next academic year.
The initial offer would be at postgraduate level, with specific courses yet to be confirmed but computing tipped as a likely option.
A spokesman said: "Whilst plans remain in active development, the University of Cambridge will be focusing its initial apprenticeship offer at the postgraduate level in a selected range of professional fields.
"Working in partnership with employers and apprentices, Cambridge is intending to deliver excellent, research-informed apprenticeship training through its Institute of Continuing Education and various academic departments.
"Subject to the university's governance processes, we hope to begin delivery during the 2018-19 academic year.
"Specific course areas are yet to be finalised."
Dozens of other universities are already registered as apprenticeship trainers, including Bath Spa and the University of Manchester.
