Husband of missing Karen Brown travels to London toy shop to trace his wife

Updated:

The husband of a woman missing for almost two weeks is travelling to a London toy shop where he hopes to be reunited with his wife.

Jock Brown is urging 47-year-old Karen Brown from Clydebank to meet him at Hamleys, where there has been a possible sighting of her.

He said the family are "extremely worried" about the new grandmother who left home in the early hours of Saturday October 14.

She was last seen by her husband and daughter Chloe on the Friday night when she returned from work at Asda in the West Dunbartonshire town.

She went to bed after a brief conversation but by the time Mr Brown woke on Saturday morning she was gone.

CCTV showed her boarding a bus from Glasgow to London around 8.20am that day and there was a potential sighting of her at Hamleys in London on Tuesday October 17.

Mr Brown, 48, said: "We are all extremely worried about Karen, and the family are desperate to find out that she is safe and well.

"I will be at Hamleys in Regent Street between 12 noon and 1pm on Saturday, and I'm urging Karen to meet me there.

"We all love you and are missing you terribly. We just want you to come back home, but if you are not ready to do this, please let police know that you are safe."

Last week Mr Brown said his wife was a "bit of a worrier" and had recently become a grandmother for the first time but he could not explain her disappearance.

On the day she went missing he thought she had started work early, and it was only when he went to pick her up at 8pm that he was told Mrs Brown had not turned up or called to say that she would not be in.

Appealing for information at a press conference with daughters Jemma and Chloe and granddaughter Millie, he said: "We know you've had a lot on your mind lately and a lot on your plate and we want to you to come home."

Mrs Brown is described as white, 5ft 6 inches tall and of medium build with collar-length brown hair.

When last seen she was wearing a pink fleece top, white trainers and was carrying an Asda bag. The woman seen on CCTV in London was wearing the same clothing, but was also wearing a burgundy padded jacket.

Inspector David Quinn said: "Extensive enquiries are continuing to trace Karen, and we are liaising with our colleagues at the Metropolitan Police in London and also with Hampshire Constabulary, as she is known to have links to that area too.

"Despite widespread media coverage and appeals, we have received no further information regarding Karen's whereabouts and we are extremely concerned. I would also appeal to Karen directly to please make contact with police to let us know that she is safe and well.

"Anyone with information that will help our enquiry should contact Clydebank Police Station through 101 quoting reference number 3818 of the October 14."
