Why is this £16m home going to be demolished?

A large family home on one of Britain's most expensive streets has been put on the market for £16 million - with a new buyer expected to demolish it.

The six bedroom, six bathroom detached home was built by Richard Seifert in the 1950s for property tycoon Harry Hyams.

It is almost six times the size of the average English home and has a prime position on Avenue Road in London, one of the capital's finest tree-lined roads.

The double-fronted home has a brick facade, tall sash windows, central pillared entrance portico and grand reception rooms.

But whoever buys 79 Avenue Road is likely to commission an architect to draw up plans to demolish the home and replace it with a 15,000sq/ft trophy home.
