Harvey Weinstein sacked over sexual harassment claims

Updated

Award-winning producer Harvey Weinstein has been fired from the film company he founded following sexual harassment allegations.

The 65-year-old's dismissal from The Weinstein Company was "effective immediately" after "new information about misconduct" came to light.

His departure follows an explosive article by the New York Times last week which alleged Weinstein had been sexually harassing women for decades.

Hollywood stars Ashley Judd and Rose McGowan were among the women who made claims of Weinstein's improper behaviour.

Last week, Weinstein issued an apology, saying: "The way I've behaved with colleagues in the past has caused a lot of pain, and I sincerely apologise for it."

However, he also denied many allegations in the NYT article as "patently false".

Weinstein has been married to British fashion designer Georgina Chapman, 41, for 10 years. The couple have two children together, while Weinstein is father to three from his first marriage.
