Sea search launched after fishermen swept off rocks

A major search and rescue operation has been launched off the coast of Cornwall after two men were swept from rocks into the sea while fishing.

One man was recovered by a coastguard helicopter and taken to hospital, but the search continues for the second man.

A member of the public reported two people in the water off the coast of Treyarnon Bay at 2.35pm on Monday.

Padstow and Newquay coastguard rescue teams, Newquay and Rock RNLI lifeboats, Treyarnon lifeguards and the UK Coastguard search and rescue helicopter based in Newquay are on the scene.

Devon and Cornwall Police and South Western Ambulance Service are also present.

A spokeswoman for the Maritime and Coastguard Agency said the first man was in the water for only a matter of minutes after the 999 call was made.

The search for the second man continues.
