Aldi scoops booze awards yet again

Aldi's own brand range of spirits has been branded the best in the world at the International Spirits Challenge.

And as well as winning Supermarket Own Brand Spirits Range of the Year, it scooped a gold medal for its Oliver Cromwell London Dry Gin.

At just £9.97, it pipped silver medallist Foxhole London Dry Gin - which sells for more than three times the price at £39.95.

Other products praised by the judges included Aldi's £6.99 Specially Selected Crème de Cassis, its £9.97 Tamova Vodka and its £17.49 Glen Marnoch Speyside Single Malt Scotch Whisky.

"The display of awards achieved by Aldi this year at the International Spirits Challenge was fantastic," says an International Spirits Challenge spokesperson.

"They consistently showcased high quality products in the blind tastings, which demonstrates that you don't have to compromise on price to enjoy great tasting drinks."

Aldi's developed quite a reputation for its drinks range, winning 158 medals for its beers, wines, and spirits so far this year.

It was also crowned Multiple Wine Retailer of the Year at the Drinks Retailing Awards in February.

"Receiving medals for our spirits is a fantastic achievement and it is great to see our spirits range being praised so highly by experts," says Tony Baines, joint managing director of corporate buying at Aldi.

"Being awarded a title such as 'Supermarket Own Brand Spirits Range of the Year' is something that not only reflects the quality of our products but also the hard work that our UK based buying team put into drinks retailing every single day."
